World traveler and noted artist Janet Wang will appear in the Studio Gallery at ARTWORKS around town on Friday January 3, 2020. A free public reception from 5:30 – 8 p.m. will open the show for the month of January. She will present pieces in all three of her favorite mediums, oil, pastel and watercolor.
Wang has been making art since she was young. She used her free time between studying, preparing exams or doing homework to practice her skills in drawing and painting. She was born in Taiwan and came to the United States in 1970 to pursue a graduate degree in Pharmaceutics. She married and had two children.
While in school, she took painting classes during her free time on Saturdays. More recently, she has studied with Mark Flemming, Bob Sako and Christine Swann. She has always appreciated the beauty of her surroundings. This passion has led her to take photographs and make pencil sketches which she uses as reference material for her landscape paintings. Since 2016, she has taken part in the Journeys de Peinture Internationales, an international group of plein air painters who meet every year in a different host country. She has painted in England, Switzerland, Germany, France and Wheeling.
Wang works primarily in oil although she enjoys watercolor and pastel painting as well. Every Monday, she joins friends at the Independent Artists Group to practice her figure drawing skills while drawing from a live model at Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Center.
The student side of the North End of the gallery will feature small works of art. Member artists and guests will be displaying works in various mediums no larger than 9”x12” in size.
Betsy Cox curates the Studio Gallery and Sandra Hadsell oversees the Student section.
